Brewgooder

Co-founders Alan Mahon and James Hughes became friends over a shared passion for good beer and making an impact in the world. They started to imagine a beer brand that would allow drinkers to make a positive difference with every pint enjoyed. After Alan's experience in Nepal – where he contracted a parasite from drinking contaminated water – they decided that funding clean water projects would be the best place to start.

Brewgooder launched in 2016, with an online crowdfund and over 1,000 drinkers across the UK supporting the idea of a beer brand dedicated to making better lives for others. The first cans of Brewgooder Lager were brewed and made their way to drinkers and bars across the UK. In just three months, enough Brewgooder Lager was sold to support the first Brewgooder water project in Chiluzi, Malawi – supplying consistent clean water access to a rural village of over 5,000 people.

For every can or pint of Brewgooder’s beer enjoyed, the company is committed to ensuring that 100 times that amount will be provided in clean water on projects undertaken by its trusted impact partner, Charity Water.

One of the clean water projects that Brewgooder drinkers made possible in 2021 was the implementation of a rehab well in Mali, western Africa. This well alone has already provided more than 14m litres of clean water to a community of 400 people. Brewgooder’s impact in clean water continues to grow, with over 150,000 lives reached through the funding of dozens of water projects across multiple countries.

Brewgooder is passionate about building a better beer industry. This means at all times holding itself accountable for how it operates as a company, and standing up for what it believes in. The company is proud to be a Living Wage employer and to have founded Work In Progress, a growing collective of brewers around the world striving to create a more diverse and inclusive beer industry.
