After some regular blood tests returned an unusual marker, Ashley Southard suspected her usual mushroom supplement. So, she stopped taking it and shortly afterwards, her bloods returned to normal.

For Ashley, it signalled that overstimulating the immune system by overdosing on supplements could have negative health implications. But most people wouldn’t know this.

It was the lightbulb moment that led to Miami-based Ashley starting Mushroom Design in 2020 – a pre-dosed, scientifically formulated daily vitamin paired with nine functional mushrooms for immune health and cell regeneration.

A sustainable ethos is central to Mushroom Design’s setup. The company has designed compostable, plant-based packaging, with carbon-negative algae ink used for printing.
