Zoku

Zoku, meaning tribe or family in Japanese, reflects their focus on community and connection. They offer a unique concept that blends elements of a home, office and social space, all under one roof.

The two founders, Hans Meyer and Marc Jongerius were inspired to create a hybrid living and working space for a new generation of business travellers. Having lived and worked remotely from numerous countries they discovered a gap in the hospitality industry and were destined to build a unique concept that makes positive impact and sustainable success.

In 2018, Zoku was the first hospitality company to receive the B Corp certification in the Netherlands. A proud moment! They are committed to social and environmental responsibility.

Throughout their operations and procurement processes Zoku strives to reduce their carbon footprint and adopt various sustainable practices. They’ve implemented moss rooftops to help cool down buildings, absorb air pollution and catch rainwater. Various measures have been put in place to save energy (i.e. use of LED lights, motion sensors). Zoku banned single-use plastic water bottles and straws, and guarantee 70% of the healthy food they serve come from local sources. Furthermore, they partner with nonprofits, socially-minded businesses to improve mental and physical well-being.

Zoku takes responsibility for the effects of their team members, environment and business. They focus on the entire process, rather than just the destination. In all of their decision-making they balance between people, planet and profit. And are aware that it’s a continuous journey to optimise and improve their impact.

Furthermore, Zoku Hotels are pro-actively contributing to nine of the United Nations Sustainable Development goals, which can be read in their impact report.
